Grab a cuppa and settle in with Miriam Levy as she takes us on a journey through her Polish Jewish grandfather Henry Reiss's memoir, a tale of resilience surviving the chaos of World War II. Picture this: Henry was just your average engineer in Kraków when things got a bit dicey in September 1939. He, along with his wife and kiddo, managed to navigate the challenges of war and somehow made it through with their sanity mostly intact. After the war, while stuck in a displaced persons camp in Paris, Henry decided it was time to pen down his adventures and misadventures. Fast forward a few years, and after hopping over to Australia, he dusted off his writings, added some original documents for flair, and finally hit "publish" for family and friends in 1991.
Now, acclaimed author Philippe Sands thinks Henry's story deserves a global spotlight, and who are we to argue? So come along and let Miriam weave her grandfather's remarkable legacy into something tangible, perhaps while you sip your favourite brew. It's free, so why not add a sprinkle of history to your morning? Just remember to register on Eventbrite, because who wouldn't want to hear about engineering in Kraków during a world crisis?
