Michael Visontay is coming to Woollahra Library to chat with Michaela Kalowski about his book, 'Noble Fragments'. Get ready for a fascinating tale that all started with someone having the audacity to chop up a Gutenberg Bible, the original superstar of printed books, back in 1921. A New York bookseller apparently thought it was a cracking idea to sell the pages individually, which, predictably, sent shockwaves through the more serious bookworm circles but made him a fortune.
Fast forward a few decades and Michael, a Sydney journo, stumbled upon a legal document that bizarrely linked this bibliographical dismemberment to his own family's history. His subsequent obsessive quest to track down these scattered pages is what he's documented in 'Noble Fragments'. He'll be sharing his journey through the gloriously eccentric world of book collectors and, naturally, some family secrets he unearthed along the way. This free event is on Sunday, 20 July 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. You can find more details and sign up on Eventbrite.
