Ever get the feeling you've seen this movie before, but with different actors and slightly better special effects. The Woollahra Philosophy Club is pondering if anything in this universe is genuinely new. Or are we just stuck on a rather elaborate hamster wheel, endlessly reinventing the same old ideas, empires, conflicts, and perhaps even those questionable fashion trends. We will be having a chinwag about this delightful concept from both the highbrow philosophical angle and the "hang on, I think my nan said that" practical perspective.
Our philosophical deep dive kicks off on Wednesday 23 July, where we will muse over "Beginnings and Endings Cycles Not Arrows." Then, on Wednesday 30 July, we will shift gears to "Religion in Politics across Asia: The Resurgence of Extremism and the Decline of Liberalism in the Digital Era," which sounds like a lighthearted topic for a Wednesday morning, doesn't it. Both sessions run from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Cultural Hub, Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf, 548 New South Head Road, Double Bay. It will set you back $150.00 to join this intellectual romp, and you can sort out your attendance via Eventbrite. Just so you know, it is all happening in July 2025.
