Join Lindsay Bartels and Michaela Kalowski for a chat about Lindsay's new book, Imogen in Waiting. It's a memoir about modern reproduction, which sounds like a fun topic until you hear the backstory. At 26, Lindsay was diagnosed with breast cancer and discovered she carries the BRCA1 gene. To avoid passing it on, she and her husband went through IVF and ended up with three viable embryos: two healthy boys and one girl with the gene. So she wrote a letter to that girl, Imogen, and turned it into a book about making an impossible choice whether to bring a daughter like herself into the world. Along the way she tackles life's big questions, like what makes a life worth living and how to live with your decisions when you're not sure you made the right one. It's heavy stuff, but Lindsay tells it with honesty and a bit of grace.
The event is free and you need to register on Eventbrite. It's on Wednesday 1 July 2026 from 6.15pm to 7.15pm at Woollahra Library at Double Bay, 451 New South Head Road, Double Bay. Come along, grab a seat, and hear a story about agency, surrender, and how life keeps unfolding even when you're stuck in the middle of it all. No pressure to have all the answers just bring your questions and maybe a tissue.
